Scuba Diving

Diving is one of my all-time favorite activities, and when I had the opportunity this Christmas break to go to Coron, Palawan to dive, I was super excited!

Being in a natural environment after months of quarantine felt surreal.

My first dunk into the waters with my hefty scuba gear and sinking into the ocean depths was really calming.  When I dive, I feel weightless and my body relaxes and flows with the rhythm of the current.

Our dives

My dive adventure was special this time around because it's the first time I got to dive with my high school buddies.

One of the most notable dives was in Kyokuzan Maru where we able to explore a sunken World War 2 era Japanese ship.

We were able to go inside the ship wreck and see car remains.  The ship was also filled with corals and wildlife.  We spotted a rare scorpion fish hidden among the corals.

We had 5 dives around Coron where we saw a variety of sea creatures both big and small, and a night dive in the Club Paradiese House Reef where we observed sleeping turtles, glowing jellyfish and lobsters out and about.

Overall the entire diving experience was amazing and I only hope to go diving again soon!

Sealife is amazing, and I really enjoy floating around with the fish and turtles.  Discovering camoflauged crabs, lobsters and sea creatures intrigues me immensely.

I have progressed from a junior open water diver to an advanced open water diver over the past 3 years. This has allowed me to dive to depths of 30 meters or 100 feet.

This trip, I also wanted to expand my diving knowledge by taking an "Enriched Air Nitrox" course, which would allow me to dive with a tank with specialized air containing a higher percentage of oxygen. I was aware of the dangers presented by breathing this enriched gas. I studied the course material thoroughly to familiarize myself with the risks involved and I memorized the correct safety protocols.

I passed the written exam and had little trouble adapting to the air on my Nitrox test dive.

I am glad that I now have this license. Using this system allows me to stay underwater for a longer period of time.
