Coding is an ever evolving tool for our digital world

Last summer, I had the opportunity for an internship with a technology company in New York, where I was immersed with a team creating enterprise blockchain solutions. With much gratitude, I am able to continue to work with my mentor, even after the summer. This year, he introduced me to one of his co-workers who was also running an open-source project designed to help coders. This project was really interesting and I was excited to join them with the further development of this tool.

The project proved to be quite difficult. Firstly, I had to learn a new language (Go) that I had never touched before, and this really made me rethink how I coded, adapting the principles of the language into my logic. I also had to learn much more about Git, a version of a management tool that organizes code. We had regular meetings at late hours, due to the team being in three different time zones, but this has accustomed me to the workflow of a modern digital software company and enhanced my abilities to work remotely.

Throughout the project so far, I have helped with the creation of a migration tool allowing users to transfer their data from older versions of the program to newer versions, and have also fixed several bugs and implemented new features with the code. With the project still ongoing, the experience has so far been very rewarding, and I hope to continue this journey and learn more!
